The VL blog

Before a WordPress SEO edit, check how undo works

A useful undo starts before the change: you need an accurate record of what was there.

Capture the actual original

Confirm the page ID, published address and supported fields. A blank override may be the correct original value. The public generated title can differ from stored metadata, so preserve those observations separately rather than guessing what to restore.

Verify the permitted change

Read saved fields back and inspect the public page. A cache or failed fetch can leave public output unverified. If a submission times out, it may already have committed. Read existing state before deciding whether another action is safe.

Preserve later edits

Before restore, compare the current fields to VL's applied version. A later human edit must stop the overwrite. Verify restored fields and original public output, then exclude the item from fixed-work totals. Test the whole process on a disposable page before expanding its scope.
